Introduction to Biostatistics@UHN
An introduction to the newly formed Biostatistics@UHN Research Core
The Biostatistics Core is comprised of a dedicated team of experts able to provide extensive biostatistical insight and support to researchers across UHN and external academic and industrial sectors.
Focusing on producing reliable and trustworthy results, the core offers a comprehensive range of statistical services covering all stages of the research process. The team is comprised of five specialist groups, each bringing expertise in different areas. These groups include clinical research and drug development, applied clinical research, observational research, translational research and data science.
Biostatistics@UHN services include:
- Study planning and design: Study protocol development, sample size calculations, randomization, allocation strategies, bias and confounding minimization and observational study design
- Grant writing and protocol creation: contribution to proposal writing, statistical input, data analysis plans, and research protocol assistance
- Data collection form design
- Data capture instrument and database construction
- Complex data processing and linkage
- Quality control: including data validation and outlier detection
- Statistical and machine learning methodology development: Methodology and computational algorithm development for high-dimensional data, biomarker, genomic/multi-omics research, adaptive clinical trials, and more.
- Statistical analysis, figure, and table generation
- Networking and education: Workshops, lectures, graduate courses, and training programs
Biostatistics@UHN is committed to advancing statistical methodologies to help researchers extract valuable insights from their data and make informed decisions that improve patient outcomes. We aim to enhance the quality of research studies thereby contributing to advancements in healthcare and clinical research.
